They left their homeland behind and came to a country where everything was different. A country where no woman was veiled. Where girls went to school, where couples strolled in the park in close embrace and young women showed their hair, legs and much more. Immoral women. Women who deserved to be beaten. Because a man is a man and a woman must remain a woman.

But where did it all lead? What happened to the continent of freedom, equality and justice? What happened to its values, its art, its music, its culture? And above all, what happened to the women who had once fought for equal rights and independence?

Wolfram Steffen continues the present trend way into the future. This book is his most political book to date. In it, he presents his readers with a world as it could well be if everything takes the course that is already casting its shadow. A world in which religion is back in charge. In which the old rules no longer apply, and new laws have been passed based on millennia-old scriptures. Laws that turned back the wheel of history and turned women back into what they were from the beginning: Objects of male desire. Temptations for sale. Personal property. Creature subject to male will.

It is a world of the omnipresent state and all-dominating religions. A world of unrestrained digitalization and total surveillance. A world in which education is in the hands of those in power and only two paths are mapped out for women. If they are beautiful and desirable, they will become the personal property of the man who can afford something special. If they lack the charms that men appreciate, they merely face a life as a worker, servant or slave and fulfill the function without which no society can function.

This is a fictional novel that is somewhere in the world of thought between „1984“ and „The Handmaid’s Tale“. It demonstrates where it can lead when religious dogma is mixed with political power. In flashbacks, the author describes how this could come about. Using different women’s lives, he illustrates the reality of a world of modern cities, silently gliding cars and electronic systems, in which male domination has been developed to perfection. A utopia that stimulates the imagination but would probably be terrible in reality.
